C.E.R.T. Training

We'll we're officially done with our CERT Training and we'll be getting our certificates in the mail soon. Phew!
Here's what CERT really means: The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

After 18 hours (throughout 4 days) of training we had to put our training to use in a trial run. I was freaking out the whole time. I don't know if I'd actually helped anyone or made them worse. Hopefully with more practice I'll get better and have more confidence, so I could actually save someone instead of injure them. Clark of course, was cool and collected and helped me through the whole thing. He thought the practice exercises were fun. LOL Guys!  It's hard to help people when I'm prego, but I guess disasters don't really happen when you're ready, right? The volunteers we rescued were some great kids who put on the Halloween makeup and fake blood and guts oozing out of their bodies. It made it more real, they should totally start a haunted house.

I'm glad we took the course because I do feel a bit more knowledgeable about how to address certain things that could happen in the home and in the neighborhood, but the thing that they stress is that that more we know the better we'll be able to save ourselves (which they said was 1st priority), our family (2nd priority) and then our neighborhood (3rd Priority) if we had to. So, I would recommend everyone take this course because it definitely provides you with great info on how to help yourselves even if you don't ever get the chance to help others, at least you know how to help yourself and your family.

I did get to use a Fire Extinguisher for the first time. It's pretty easy! Here's a pic of us with our Fire Extinguishers and our cool new Hats and Vests.
