So Clark emailed me this song yesterday and told me to think of our Bumpy while I listened to it. It is such a sweet song for our little Bumpy. It made me cry because I feel most of it is so true.

Song: The Things We've Handed Down
Listen to it: Things-weve-handed-down.mp3

Lyrics:
Don't know much about you
Don't know who you are
We've been doing fine without you
But, we could only go so far
Don't know why you chose us
Were you watching from above
Is there someone there that knows us
Said we'd give you all our love
-
Will you laugh just like your mother
Will you sigh like your old man
Will some things skip a generation
Like I've heard they often can
Are you a poet or a dancer
A devil or a clown
Or a strange new combination of
The things we've handed down
-
I wonder who you'll look like
Will your hair fall down and curl
Will you be a mama's boy - (yep he's gonna be this one for sure.)
Or daddy's little girl - (but he'll be daddy's little boy too.)
Will you be a sad reminder
Of what's been lost along the way
Maybe you can help me find her
In the things you do and say
-
And these things that we have given you
They are not so easily found
But you can thank us later
For the things we've handed down
-
You may not always be so grateful
For the way that you were made
Some feature of your father's
That you'd gladly sell or trade
And one day you may look at us
And say that you were cursed
But over time that line has been
Extremely well rehearsed
By our fathers, and their fathers
In some old and distant town
From places no one here remembers
Come the things we've handed down
-
So cute huh? Not the type of song I usually like or that I'm used to. But I totally love it. That song inspired me to look for more songs about our little baby boy and I am sure others who have little boys or girls will love these songs too.

Allison Krauss' "Baby Mine" - For baby
Reba McEntire's "He Gets That From Me" - For an older boy but his father died :(
John Lennon's "Beautiful boy" - Toddler
John Denver's "baby/for Bobby" Girl or Boy
Harry Chapin's "Cat's In The Cradle" Moral of the song is to make time for your son. Kind of a sad song if you think about it.
Paul Simon's "Father & Daughter" - So cute, obviously for a daughter.
Loggins and Messina's "Danny's song" For a daughter
Barry Manilow's "I Am Your Child" Child's POV
Rascal Flatts' "My Wish" Cute for all babies.
Reba McEntire's "You're Gonna Be (Always Loved By Me)" Son or daughter.
Taylor Hick's "Do I Make You Proud" From Child's POV
Monica's "For You I Will" Parent's POV for any kids. This is more my style of music. :)
Jordan Hill's "Remember Me This Way"
Bob Carlisle's "Butterfly Kisses" Daddy's little girl.

Anyways, there's lot of them out there and it could take me all day to find them. I'll maybe use one of these for future videos we make of our little boy.

  2. If I were having a girl I would name her Capri after the song by Colbie Caillat. It is almost like a lullaby. The first line made me cry after my miscarrage, "Shes got a baby inside, and holds her belly tight, all through the night. Just so she knows, shes sleeping so safely to keep her growing." It makes me think what a miracle every baby is, and how precious they become to you the minute you find out! I am so excited for your baby! And I love this song even though we are having a boy, because all the words are true for any baby.

from Linda: Capri is such a cute name! But I'd be tempted to call her Sun too. ;) Miscarriage just means the spirit couldn't inhabit that body because it wasn't strong enough. At least you know this one is, and now that same spirit can come to your family in a healthy one. :) (It's just what I believe)

  3. What a beautiful lullaby. I am copying it for sure! Thanks for the other songs about boys (and girls). I am partial to boys because as you know, they are my world.

  5. "With Arms Wide Open" by Creed was written by lead singer, Scott Stapp when he found out he was going to be a father. If you can forget how often the song was played on the radio back in 2000, it's a pretty good listen. I thought the lyrics were especially applicable for expecting fathers.
